VOCABULARY

Hurt /həːt/ – mostly a verb or adjective   – physically injured
傷つける e.g. I hurt my leg.
It hurts all over my ankle.

Injure /ˈɪndʒə/verb – physically injured
けがする E.g. I have injured my leg

Pain/peɪn/noun – pinpoint , sharp  – a very bad physical sensation caused by injury
全体的ではなく、一箇所の強い痛み E.g. I have a sharp pain in my leg. I am in great pain.

Painful /ˈpeɪnfʊl,/adjective – affected with a lot of pain
強く痛い E.g. My leg is pretty painful. (pretty = quite, or more than a little bit)
On a scale of 1-10, if 10 is the most painful, how painful is it?

Sore /sɔː/ adjective  – a large part of your body that is a little painful or aching
痛い E.g. I have a really sore leg (全体的に痛い)

Ache /eɪk/noun or verb – continuous or prolonged dull pain in a part of your body

Bruised /bruːzd/ – adjective or verb – having a bruise

Swell /swɛl/ – verb – a part of the body becomes bigger, after it is hurt

Break/breɪk/ – verb – a crack or fracture in a bone in the body
折れる Break – broke – broken

Broken /ˈbrəʊk(ə)n/ – past participle
折れた E.g. I wasn’t sure if my leg was broken or not.

レントゲンを撮る If we get something done, then someone else will do it. So that means someone else will do the x-ray. The department in a hospital that does x-rays is called radiology

Prescribe /prɪˈskrʌɪb/ – verb
処方箋を出す I’ll prescribe some painkillers to help you with the pain. 
When the doctor wants you to take medicine, she can’t actually give it to you right there, so she ‘prescribes’ medicine, which means she gives you a piece of paper that you can take to a chemist (drug store) to get that medication.

E: Hi. I’d like to make an appointment to see the doctor today please. 今日に外科の予約できますか?I had an accident this morning and injured my leg. 朝に事故をして、足にけがをしました。Do you have any appointments this morning? 今朝に予約が取れるでしょうか?
R: We have an opening at 10:00 or 10:15. Which one would you like?10時か10時15分にあきがございます。どちらが宜しいでしょうか?
E: 10:00  would be great thanks. 10時にお願いします。
R: Do you have any Covid symptoms, such as a fever, sore throat, runny nose or cough? コロナウイルスの症状がありますか?例えば、熱、喉の痛み、鼻水や咳など?
E: No, otherwise I’m fine. 他には元気です。
R: OK, see you soon. では後ほどお待ちしております。
